Nokia Makes Its Comeback With Its New Nokia 6 Smartphone
Earlier this year, at Mobile World Congress, we learned that Nokia would be making its comeback in the States. Today, HMD Global — which owns the rights to manufacture Nokia-branded smartphones — announced some new info on its upcoming Nokia 6 smartphone.
The device sports a metal unibody design and offers a 5.5-inch 1080p Gorilla Glass display, 3 GB of RAM, and 3 2GB of storage. It’ll be powered by the Snapdragon 430 processor, which is the same processor as the Moto G5. It offers a 16 MP rear camera, 8 MP front camera, and runs Android Nougat. Like the Samsung Galaxy S8, it’s equipped with a microSD card slot and 3,000 mAh battery.
The Nokia 6 comes in matte black and silver, and will be released exclusively on Amazon sometime in early July for $229. The phone will also be available in tempered blue and copper in the summer. The phone offers full 4G LTE support for T-Mobile customers and partial support for AT&T. The phone will not work on CDMA-based networks like Sprint and Verizon.
Also, coming this summer to the U.S. is the revival of the iconic Nokia 3310. It features a 2.4-inch QVGA display, 2 MP camera, microSD card slot, and runs Nokia’s Series 30+ software. Best of all, you can play Snake! You get an impressive 31 days of standby time, and 22 hours of talk time with this throwback phone, too. Like the original 3310, this phone is practically indestructible and will be just fine when dropped.
HMD Global still hasn’t released any additional details on its new, smaller, and cheaper Nokia smartphones, the 5.2-inch Nokia 5 and 5-inch Nokia 3. We do know that they too, will make their way to the United States.
The Nokia 5 is an aluminum smartphone that’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 processor and has 2 GB of RAM. The main difference between this one and the Nokia 6 is that the 5 features curved edges, making it more comfortable to hold. It has a 13 MP rear camera, an 8 MP front-facing camera, and also runs on Android Nougat.
The Nokia 3 is a budget smartphone with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, and a slower, MTK 6737 quad-core processor. Rather than sporting an aluminum backside, this one is made from polycarbonate instead. It has an 8 MP camera at its front and rear, and has an aluminum frame to protect it against drops.
